The image was originally from Picture Sheffield, part of the Sheffield Archives and showed three buffer girls taking a tea break during World War Two.&lt;/p&gt;          &lt;p align="left"&gt;To read the article click on the image to the left.&lt;/p&gt;          &lt;p align="left"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The project still needs for women to tell us their stories about working in industry in South Yorkshire. The Women In Industry oral history project commissioned a research document from Lynne Fox in November 2008. The research was to inform the oral history enquiry and to form the basis of the exhibition that will be held in the summer around the information that will be collected from the oral histories.&lt;br /&gt;The project has now received the research document and with it a treasure trove of images that have been kindly provided to us with &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;permission&lt;/span&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&amp;#183; A small number of pre-arranged and mutually agreeable dates for the interviewing of participants&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;&amp;#183; Help in putting together and running the 4 exhibition and workshop in your area.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Travel Expenses will be paid&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;By the end of the project you will have learned the skills required for oral history taking and be able to use this for your own family research &amp;#8211;     &lt;tr&gt;       &lt;td valign="top" width="362"&gt;The Trust received a call last week from someone who had seen the article in the &lt;em&gt;Yorkshire Post, Tuesday 16th Dec 2008,&lt;/em&gt; and was able to identify one of the women in the 'Buffer Girls drinking tea picture' (&lt;em&gt;right, middle&lt;/em&gt;) as his mother!          &lt;br /&gt;We have been using the picture in a lot of our publicity because it was such a lovely image. As a response the caller then sent us more photos of his mother from Dixon's Cutlery and working on the Civil Defence Ambulance, (&lt;em&gt;below left Dixon's Cutlery, below right Civil Defence Ambulance)&lt;/em&gt; The project aims to research and archive the experiences of South Yorkshire women working in industry over the past 100 years, record their experiences and celebrate their and celebrate their contribution to the region’s heritage.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dr Fiona Spiers Head of Heritage Lottery Fund Yorkshire and the Humber said:&lt;br /&gt;“Women played a vital role in the industrial heritage of the South Yorkshire Region; a hidden history that is sometimes forgotten. ‘The South Yorkshire Women in Industry’ project will preserve this unique heritage by bringing their stories to life, letting everyone get involved and share their past.”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We would like &lt;strong&gt;volunteers&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;participants&lt;/strong&gt; from all ages, backgrounds and from all areas of the region:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;As a &lt;strong&gt;volunteer &lt;/strong&gt;you will:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;- Receive training on gathering oral history, including how to use recording equipment&lt;br /&gt;- Have the chance to contribute to your local history and build up a bank of knowledge that can be used by local communities.&lt;br /&gt;- Take part in workshops, and an exhibition that will be formed around the information you have collected.&lt;br /&gt;- Gain the skills to research your own community or family - bring the past to life!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Contributors&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As a &lt;strong&gt;participant&lt;/strong&gt; you will:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- Have the chance to tell your story about the way you have lived and worked.&lt;br /&gt;- Play an important role in the filling in of the gaps about women in the history of industrial work in the region.&lt;br /&gt;- Have your oral history archived across the region for future generations to use.&lt;br /&gt;- Meet new people in your area who are interested in local history.&lt;br /&gt;- Take part in workshops, and an exhibition that will be formed around the information you have given.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;-Not you?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It could be your Mother, Grandmother, sister or any other relative or friend who worked in such an environment whose story you could tell on their behalf.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We would be very pleased to hear from anyone who can contribute to the project and help us in compiling a lasting picture of women’s contribution to the rich industrial past of South Yorkshire.
